I’m on ow ….and just started a job but was laid off due to covid…..I now get $0 because I can’t get cerb due to not making $5000 in the past year and my common law partner gets the cerb so it takes me down to $0 Real nice. for families available as emergency funding available to persons on ODSP is impossible to gain access to as the phone line in place is not functioning properly. Then sorry to say but you can not collect CERB since you made more then $5,000.00 that is why ODSP will not pay you anything. So once again I say what is missing in this life is EMPATHY for the vulnerable in Canada. Everyone working full time minimum wage or greater who’s on cerb instead has had an income reduction. In a memo to case workers this week, provincial officials said people on social assistance who have lost jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and who receive $2,000 monthly CERB payments from Ottawa should report this income. Believe it or not I called BBB because they paid me only housing which is like 400.00 or 500.00, Why OW and ODSP people treat like we are no body in this country .Alfter all we Canadian citizens or otherwise they are staying here.Goverment should think about us.
not long after I get a call from ODSP and they sure fixed that fast. Has anyone heard anything lately about help coming to people on disability? You must contact ODSP each month for it to be given to you. Some people with disabilities can’t drive or wait in long lines. Bring it to Ms. Carla’s attention.
The current rate for a single person receiving OW is $733 per month. I receive ODSP benefits and I have worked my entire life as well you cannot live in Ontario receiving only ODSP when the average rent for a single bedroom is $1,200 to $1,400 and I have lost my job for the entire year due to the nature of my job once the cerb runs out, there is absolutely no financial recourse for me none and I got a letter from ODSP saying to prepare ourselves for November because of all the deductions that will leave me with $100 to live on, I have a question, as I mentioned in my other comment I received ODSP benefits but I have worked my entire life and paid into EI benefits since I was 16 years old, if I apply for EI and receive EI benefits ODSP takes it dollar for dollar The government considers this double dipping I don’t understand that concept I worked for that I paid into that why is it not treated like earnings How is this double dipping, Are you sure you ca collect ODSP if you collect EI? Worked my whole life paid into the system and this is how we are treated, when your spouse still works its a really tough call for assistance. I battle mental illness , depression and anxiety. Why doesnt the goverment allow 60 and over to collect there cpp benifit on top of ow or odsp. And in this current environment, if you've applied for the CERB because fuck it, you've just guaranteed they will. AGE……………… More than 960,000 people in Ontario rely on social assistance, either ODSP, for people with disabilities, or Ontario Works (OW) for those deemed able to work. I am one of those ODSP recipients and I assure you that it is not easy at the best of times to get help from the ODSP office. A lot of angry citizens that individuals receive government money to stay home…these recipients have disabilities.
You will be allowed to get a one time payment of an extra $100.00 and that’s it. These comments based on assumptions are a huge problem within society. Take action to improve more stability in income. you should do what they tell unemployed people to do….they say “move to a room or get roommates or go to a homeless shelter…” those are your options unless you demand a big raise from your boss at your job. That in itself means that in all likelihood, we cannot even earn ANY extra income, even though I believe we are entitled to earn $6000/yr. r having very difficult time to pay bills or busting ass to make even to stick to doctors orders like dieting, if they can eat little but still can’t gain weight but can’t get ensures n stuff it’s hard I say look into y there on O.D.S.P.
