In 2018, G7 Environment, Ocean and Energy Ministers met on the theme of Working together on climate change, oceans and clean energy in the fall in Canada. Both parties discussed the expansion of the introduction of renewable energy in the world and cooperation in the field of hydrogen. It was created as a response to the growing recognition that key emerging economies such as China, India and Brazil were not adequately represented at the core of global economic discussion and governance. G20 held the first meeting where energy ministers and environment ministers came together to discuss issues on climate change and securing affordable, reliable, accessible energy [systems] for supporting global economic growth. G20 Environment Ministers Meeting Published Date: September 17, 2020 Global Initiative to reduce Land Degradation and Coral Reef program launched at G20 Environment Ministers Meet. The IEA's contributions to the G20 this year include a major report on hydrogen as well as work on innovation gaps and investment in low-carbon power. The IEA’s G20 work also involves tracking progress towards phasing out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption. This report is the IEA's first comprehensive report on hydrogen prepared in response to a request of the Government of Japan and contains a comparison of costs of supply and transport of hydrogen, and introduction of industrial use of hydrogen in ironmaking and petroleum refinery, as well as policy recommendations. On the sidelines, he held bilateral meetings with ministers from several countries, including Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
