Rock Creek Falls These remote waterfalls are located on the side of Unaka Mountain in Unicoi County, TN.

Beautiful waterfall. That kept the bugs away at least! This trail was PERFECT for my daughter’s first “moderate” trail.

Plenty of areas to have a picnic before or after your hike.

One said 1.5 and the other said 2.0. The trailhead is near the campsite, but make sure to pay the $2.00 day fee which is based on the honor system. with a steady diet of roots increasing with the elevation. Parking for 8-10 vehicles; no restroom facilities.

The water was good and cold.

I would rate this as high moderate hike. Not really a technical trail until you get to the falls.

For beginners, this trail is pretty tough closer to the top. 4 mile (total out and back) hike to nice waterfall there as well. When you’re looking for a good weekend day hike, one that’s 10 minutes off the interstate, and has about 1,100 feet of elevation, on a 5 mile in and out trail, this one should be on your list. The hike is moderate and the trail is rugged with tree roots and rocks.

We tried a couple of different paths.

I would recommend wearing water shoes because you have to cross over a creek. Trail concludes at the waterfall. The first creek isn’t marked accurately on all trails. I was glad we brought water shoes. Rock Creek Falls is a scenic tiered waterfall in the Unaka Mountains of Cherokee National Forest. The waterfall was so fun to play in and if it were warmer I would have gone for a swim. Note that the one marker at the trailhead had two different distances. Trail concludes at the waterfall.

As others have said, there are 4 creek crossings, and depending on how the water is flowing you may get wet. The apparent primary path included a drop off a good sized rock, a pretty good stretch for those of us vertically challenged, suffice it to say if you are wearing low cut hiking shoes you will get your socks wet (and your feet cooled off). Great Falls is a 30-foot horseshoe cascading waterfall, located below the 19th-century cotton textile mill that it powered over 100 years ago. This was a great family hike! level ones I have encountered in the mountains of TN. The hike was moderate with both ways moving between easy and strenuous; I got a great workout and I am active. You could easily make this a half day.

However this time, apparently they cleaned with straight bleach instead of just a Clorox type cleaner.

0.3 miles more and make a second stream crossing.

There are plenty of strong anchor points for top roping in this area. This route offers a steady incline over a trail that is 95% rocks and roots.There are four water crossings on the way up.

This is an extremely pleasant trek with a fantastic payoff at the end.

We had so much fun on this hike even though it was POURING! There are several groves of rhododendron.

When I'm not camping, I'm picnicking in the day use area. I know this sounds like a stupid review but for those of us that wear a dark blue uniform to work, this could've been an expensive problem. The trail is primarily used for hiking, camping, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round.

The trail down to the water at the falls is a bit treacherous but doable. Beautiful campground but better suited for a short say. The most challenging part of the trail is getting down to the falls.

Still it was a great time, no people and very peaceful, albeit a little damp. A week is too long with the few trails and nothing nearby to explore. Nearly the entire trail is uphill on this uneven ground.

It had rained quiet a bit the last few day’s We crossed the creek twice to get to the falls , water was high , we wore hiking boots so had to take them off to cross the creek. One group we passed coming in said the best view was from the base of the falls. Rock Creek Falls is a 3.3 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Reliance, Tennessee that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate.

There are a couple large sites but scope them out. We started on the hike about 10:30 and crossed paths with two or three small groups on the way up. more.

I would rate this trail as moderate due to the two creek crossings. There another water crossing after the first, then it’s straight up to the falls. Wear good shoes cause the path is mostly rocks.
