People of all sorts (children to seniors) were found on this trail so I think a novice could attempt this if there are no medical concerns. Picnic at one of the tables with grills, play on the playground with the kids, and take an easy hike along the Kingfisher Trail (trailhead is near the playground) to view the cypress trees. Great climb. Add mountain climbing to your list of accomplishments after reaching the summit. I go early in the day to avoid crowds. Luckily my friend knew to stick to the left coming up as it is the easier, less steep hike.

Cool place with amazing views. Farther up the trail is the beginning of the rock and boulder field. If your in the area and want to do it I would suggest doing it! Pinnacle Mountain State Park, located northwest of Little Rock, is considered the easternmost mountain in the Ouachita Mountains.

There are two trails that will get you to the top of Pinnacle Mountain: the East Summit Trail and the West Summit Trail. It is a steep incline with long boutsof bouldering for an average view at the top. Pinnacle Mountain became a state park in the 1970’s. After marker 10 follow the yellow trail blazons until you see marker 10E (East Summit Trail). Used to hike pinnacle mountain as a kid all the time when my family and I lived in little rock.

Medium to large dogs should find the hike challenging but fun. Drive about 20 minutes outside of downtown and you'll soon hit farm fields and forests. I didn't notice this until after the hike was completed. As you ascend toward the summit, there are no barriers.

This is a strenuous hike and only physically fit individuals should attempt to climb the mountain. I love nature/outdoorsy activities but the bugs hate me. The east summit has bigger rocks and can get quite steep-- getting on all fours would be recommended. From here you can see views of Shinall Mountain and the Maumelle Pinnacles. West side is slightly easier than the east. So peaceful and I look forward to more hikes here! All hikers must be off of the trails 1 hour prior to closing. It can get dangerous. A restroom is centrally located to the trails, playground and picnic area. Directions. Small children will have a difficult time reaching the summit on their own. I came on a weekend and it was quite crowded (this was soon after the New Years so perhaps many were fulfilling resolutions). The summit can be quite windy. The park closes 1 hour after sunset. This is a easy out and back trail to Pinnacle Mountain in Pinnacle Mountain State Park. Small dogs run the danger of falling in between the boulders and they may get tired and have to be carried.

Thus, I had to utilize the overflow parking lot across the Hwy 300. We also got some great photos once we left from the mountainside of the hwy. I wasn't expecting the rock climbing (not sheer of course) near the top. The park gift shop is pretty cool! Will definitely go back again! Best thing ever. Around marker 3 you will be able to see Lake Maumelle. We did not get to hike it all the way through but we did get to explore it for some time. Reaching the summit is an exhilarating experience. Unfortunately, I went after a  night of drinking and so it took us over an hour just to reach the top (due to multiple breaks) and only 30 minutes going back down. The West Summit Trail is the most travelled, but the East Summit Trail is pretty popular too. Very windy on top,  so expect to be windblown.

It's best to pay attention to the yellow painted rocks/trees and it guides you where to go and probably the easiest way to hike. The only thing I would suggest would be for them to make a sign point to the hard side and the easy side. There is an area where you hike up nothing but big rocks (that was the fun part for me). The trails are laid out with rocks to step on (some may be slippery due to some sand), but for the most part, the path is clear-cut. This place was great! Had lots of fun hiking this mountain with a few friends! I was in the area with time to kill and thought Why Not! There is even a shaded area just down from the summit to enjoy a sack lunch. Both climbs have excellent views at the top. Haven't done it in over 30 years until last week. Indeed, the initial signs states "strenuous walking" and towards the end, you'll find yourself basically navigating over rocks. It was a good workout for me. I slid, but thank goodness it was a light fall. It's a little flooded right now so the main entrance up is inaccessible but there is an alternate trail.
