Also I tracked well past the falls to try to get to the damn but there is no trail, and so I ended up going in circles until I got back to the Falls. The bridge to cross Panther Creek was out, but we managed to get across on some rocks and logs previous hikers had left instream. Take a hard right here, onto FS34. (This is 3 miles east of Stevenson or 17 miles west of the Hood River Bridge). The trail gains 1,830 feet of elevation going east and loses it from the west. If you want to come in from above the falls which is beautiful during high water then you must take East Cowpen Trail to Panther Creek Trail Junction. Directions to Falls on Waters Creek. Unfortunately there are 2 bridges over the water that have been washed out and not repaired yet. Take US 19/129 west.

I’ve hiked this trail a bunch but not for about 2 yrs now. The trail is noted for its beautiful variety of wildflowers and ferns. So this was my first “real” trail and I loved it.

The tail is a a mix of hills and flat area. Make a right on Old Hwy 441 for 1 mile. Couldn’t get across, looked for a way down stream to maybe cross somewhere else but, nope...so only got in about a bit less than 2 miles, and turned back. Rained a bit but was still nice (note, we’ve had a ton of rain lately and that water was flowing good!).

Per USDA Forest Service website the trail is temporarily closed due to bridge loss, trail washout and downed trees. Panther Creek Trail is a 3.5-mile east-west running interior trail and may be reached on its eastern (high elevation) terminus via East Cowpen Trail or its western (low elevation) terminus via the Conasauga River Trail. While you are here, you may also want to visit Minnihaha Falls that is close to these waterfalls. The Panther Creek Falls are just south of Tallulah Gorge with its set of 4 waterfalls on the Tallulah River and Cascade Falls tumbling into the northern side of the canyon. Just west of the gorge the US 441 near the head of Lake Rabun you can also find the trail to Angel Falls and Panther Falls as … Officially closed due to wash out, bridge destruction, and fallen trees. The trail path is flat for the most part, but there are several areas where you walk upward. Plan on crawling through some steep washed out areas and flooded out sections, but it is worth it 100% and more! With that said, I do not plan on re-visiting this trail anytime soon. Until today! I went in the morning around 8:30 on Tuesday and saw only two people coming out! Panther Creek Falls Trail (5.5 miles) follows Panther Creek through stands of hemlock and white pine along steep, rocky bluffs of the creek. We as a community need to do better to leave things in a better condition than we found them!

The trail hikes westbound from the bridge, climbing elevation into the forest and following the creek upstream.

You can park in the actual parking lot across the street but there aren’t that many spots. We hiked the trail, then actually came back the next day to camp.

There was a startling amount of plastic bottles, truly cans, plastic bags etc... just off the trail for nearly the whole hike. But the waterfalls are so beautiful so it was worth it and we will definitely do it again although it was a little tough for our 11-year-old to complete. Then a section of the trail has collapsed. We walked up to Panther Falls but did not see how to get to Angel Falls from there. Parking is on both sides of the road. Nice swimming hole at the end. You will cross a few small wooden bridges. Large, tumbled boulders line the creek’s sandy shoreline and make a great resting spot for viewing the beautiful, roaring tumbling waterfall. The falls were beautiful!!! We had a lot of fun out there the bridges are gone in some areas so you have to cross somewhere else but it's possible. It was a gorgeous fall day with perfect temps. You can choose to still cross but plan on getting wet. At MP 47.5 turn north/left onto Wind River Rd. See Angel Panther Falls waterfall picture on the left side. The trails passes a series of cascades as well as Panther Creek Falls. We camped at the most accessible spot (I think it was the 4th actual campsite) to the trail so in the morning there was a bit of foot traffic by our site but it had a little beach next to it to wade in and it was totally private at night.
