With 2019 marking 35 years of conceptual continuity, KMFDM is showing no signs of slowing down or mellowing out – on the contrary, the Ultra Heavy Beat is as fired up and as energized as ever with the release of the band’s 21st album, PARADISE! Ransack sham This explicit track contains the band’s familiar cliches and self-referential humour, but added bite comes from guest rapper Andrew “Ocelot” Lindsley, who delivers a delectably venomous performance here that’s somewhat reminiscent of the reggae stylings KMFDM was dabbling with thirty years ago on UAIOE. The Ultra Heavy Beat returns Blending techno innovation punk snarl metal aggression PARADISE is a an impactful set of dance beats crunching guitars & the dual vocal attack of founder Sascha K. & Lucia Cifarelli. Other tracks like “No Regret” and “Disturb the Peace” continue the police state motif with suitable brutality — the former track there even references frontman Sascha Konietzko’s side project, Excessive Force — although space is made for some campier numbers like “Automaton” and the especially fun “WDYWB” that sees another long-time contributor (Cheryl Wilson) return in top form.
“No God,” and the mechanized industrial/dance energy of “Automaton,” “Disturb the Peace,” and “Megalo” (a new rendition of the band’s classic “Megalomaniac”) – KMFDM leaves no stone unturned as the album calls for revolution against a world overrun by fascism, authoritarianism, and violence. Other highlights include "Oh My Goth," a slinky cut fronted by Cifarelli that sounds like Toni Halliday and Donita Sparks dragged through a Rob Zombie spookshow, and the pulsing "Disturb the Peace," another thematic centerpiece to the album that declares the "Commander in Chief...is a clown and a thief!" Now it's hard to listen to one track without listening to the whole thing.
Taking the sociopolitical angst of Hell Yeah one step further, industrial mainstays KMFDM spew a healthy amount of angst and fury all over those who are destroying the world with greed and hate on their sardonically titled Paradise.Their 21st full-length, Paradise is intensely political and not very subtle, which is extremely cathartic for kindred spirits.
