The hike follows the AT through a series of switchbacks at 2.3 miles, rapidly dropping elevation. Appalachian Trail Loop at Lake Winfield Scott and Slaughter Mountain 5.7 MILE LOOP. The Freeman Trail undulates along the base of Blood Mountain across several streams and boulder fields before climbing back to Flatrock Gap and back to the trailhead.
