History: On July 6, 1915, dignitaries officially opened the Columbia River Highway by driving from Portland to Hood River. Parking at Multnomah Falls fills quickly during the summer season, weekends are extremely busy between 11am and 4pm. Multnomah Falls is a popular Pacific Northwest destination located about 30 minutes east of Portland, Oregon. Fed by underground springs from Larch Mountain, the flow over the falls is a spectacular view with water plummeting 620 feet (188  meters) in two sections.Â.

Built in 1925, the Multnomah Falls Lodge is on the National Register of Historic Places and the area is also along the Historic Columbia River Highway.  The lodge features a restaurant with a to-go menu, snack bar and gift shop.  The plaza is open for outdoor dining with tables spaced for social distancing and viewing areas of the falls above. Be sure to visit the historic Multnomah Falls Lodge, built in 1925. If you're not yet ready to turn back, consider continuing on a 5.4-mile loop to see the area's other waterfalls.
